Teen Creative Agency

Living Room: Diane Simpson

Saturday, April 30, 2016, 2:00-4:00pm

Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago: 220 E. Chicago Ave., Chicago, IL, 60611

Join the TCA for conversation and collaboration corresponding with the Diane Simpson exhibition, Window Dressing, at the MCA.

This Living Room will emulate the atmosphere and scenery evoked in Simpson’s pieces, exploring the importance of material culture and design within society.

Longtime Chicago artist, Diane Simpson takes heavy inspriation from merchant records and journals from the 1920s and 30s, as well as art deco design popular in the era. Originally a commission for the Racine Art Museum in WIsconsin, Window Dressing combines geometric scultpures set against Art Deco backdrops that combines abstraction with material culture and fine art.

The Teen Creative Agency is a diverse group of singular and open-minded teenagers who devote themselves to providing new experiences within the museum and for those around us, inside and outside the MCA.

Final day to submit your project proposals to 21Minus!

If you are an artist of any type, 21 or younger, and would like a chance to execute a project at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, read on!

21Minus is an annual festival of art and experiences created by people under 21 years old, hosted by the MCA’s Teen Creative Agency (TCA). On Saturday, June 11, 2016, the TCA takes over the MCA, filling it top to bottom with exciting and unexpected projects that invite visitors to engage with the museum and each other in radically new ways.

TCA is calling for creative people under 21 to propose projects to be featured at the event. Bring us your wildest ideas, and members of the TCA will help you make them come alive at 21Minus.

We want proposals inspired by this year’s theme: VIBRATIONS

Vibrations are earthquakes, the tingles between people, the invisible signals that make you tense or relaxed, dreams and déjà vu, music. Vibrations are the invisible forces and energies that move between us—connecting, communicating, unsettling, disrupting. Help us delve into the mysteries that ricochet between our bodies, off our eardrums, through our dreams, and through power structures and the foundations of society itself.

Send us your ideas for installations, performances, interactions, games, stickers, and anything else you can imagine inspired by this theme.

We are also particularly interested in interactive projects—ones that get people participating, playing, performing, making. The museum isn’t just a place for looking. Help us push the boundaries of what can happen here.

Confessional Art

“Confessional art is a form of contemporary art that focuses on an intentional revelation of the private self. Confessional art encourages an intimate analysis of the artist’s, artist’s subjects’, or spectator’s confidential, and often controversial, experiences and emotions. Confessional art emerged in the late 20th century, especially in Great Britain, and is closely associated with autobiographical visual arts and literature…” [x]

[1, 2, 3 are by Tracey Emin]

[4, 5, 6 are by Louise Bourgeois]

The Dirty Laundry project that will be led at 21minus this year by TCA member Mia will be a form of confessional art.
